Maryland bred, Out of Aileen’s Countess by Oratory, Duchess was adopted by Lauren Rubio in 2013. Lauren had found her heart horse. She was retrained to do a little bit of everything; trails, pleasure, jumping, mounted shooting, and most recently, she began running barrels. Following Lauren’s tragic passing, her friends and family reached out to Run for the Ribbons and together we decided it was best for everyone if she were to come into our lifer program. Duchess will remain a permanent fixture at Run for the Ribbons, living out the rest of her days in the sunshine. She is currently in foal as Lauren was hoping to have a barrel racing prospect from her beloved mare. We hope to complete Lauren’s journey with her and run barrels with Duchess one day in the future in Lauren’s name to honor her beloved owner and our friend, because in some way, Duchess will always be Lauren’s horse. Our sincere condolences go out to all of Lauren’s family and friends. She was an amazing horsewoman that will be greatly missed.
